PHP Functions & MySQL Fulltext

Monday, February 28th, 2005

It has been brought to our attention that the PHP Function: exif_read_data() might not be working in the Uniform Server installation of PHP. It has also been brought to our attention that the MySQL Fulltext Search is not working on the Uniform Server installtion also.

Currently we are working on the Java Servlets but we will try and fix the bugs on the side as we work on the Java Serlets Plugin. We will be testing the Fulltext Search with the new default MySQL installation on the Uniform Server which is MySQL 4.1.10, and also test out the PHP Function: exif_read_data() with our version of PHP to see if the problem is with the server or just the user PC.

If you would like to read more about the exif_read_data() bug, you can check out the forum post here.

For more on the MySQL Fulltext Search Bug, check out our SF Bugs System at SourceForge.Net

Updates will be posted here, the forum, and at the bugs system on SF.

Register Globals

Monday, February 28th, 2005

Many have talked about this and some have left the topic alone. Register Globals is a PHP directive that has been under the fire lately because most think of it has a security risk and most don’t. You see, Register Globals can be used for bad things if not used well, such as hacking if a PHP made script that is coded with Register Globals, On is not made secure.

If you would like to read more about Register Globals, please go to: Chapter 29. Using Register Globals

For more information about PHP Security, please go to: PHP Security Consortium

Click here to read the Note on Security in PHP from The PHP Development Team.

We would also like to know what you feel, whether or not to leave Register Globals, On or Off.

CVS and Servlets

Saturday, February 26th, 2005

The Uniform Server CVS has just been rebuilt for easy Checkout and also management. You can go there now to checkout development files and plugins for The Uniform Server that has no yet been released. (Beware, some may still be under development, and may not work.)

We are also starting the Servlets plugin for The Uniform Server and we found this website: The Servlet Shop. We would like to know which container to run. Tomcat is the most popularly used one but just to make sure we hear from you, we will like you all to leave your comments about which one to use.
